Frequently Asked Questions
- What are 1" x 0.5" small labels typically used for?
- 1" x 0.5" small-format labels are commonly used for jewelry tags, electronics asset tags, retail price labels, small-product barcodes, inventory dot tags, specimen and sample tubes, cosmetic tube tops, and any small-item labeling where space is limited and a compact barcode-plus-price or barcode-only format works.
- Will these 1" x 0.5" labels fit my printer?
- Most thermal printers that accept 1" core rolls and support narrow label widths can run 1" x 0.5" labels — Zebra ZD220, ZD230, ZD410, ZD411, GK420d, GX420d, GC420d, LP2824, TLP2824, Datamax E-Class Mark III, TSC TDP-225, TDP-244, Sato CG408, GoDex, and Rollo (with external holder). Set the printer to the smallest supported label width and run a calibration to ensure the gap sensor recognizes the small label gaps.
- Will the barcode be readable on a label this small?
- Yes — Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, UPC, and QR codes can all be printed on 1" x 0.5" labels with proper barcode sizing in your label software. For very dense linear barcodes, use a barcode generator that supports narrow-element widths (typically 0.005-0.010 inch). For 2D codes (QR, Data Matrix, PDF417), the label has enough surface area for typical scan-distance applications.
- Do I need a ribbon?
- No. These are direct thermal labels — the printer's thermal head creates the image directly on the heat-sensitive label. Ribbons are only needed for thermal transfer printers.
