Every printer below has been checked against manufacturer spec sheets for core size, print method, and roll compatibility with Ecotherm labels.

Two Categories of Ecotherm Labels

Ecotherm labels come in two track families based on the printers they're designed for:

  • Desktop labels (Family 1 & 2) — 1" core, gap sensing: For stationary shipping & labeling printers. Use any desktop printer from the list below.
  • Mobile labels (Family 3) — 0.75" core, black mark sensing: For portable/field printers. Use a mobile printer from the list below. Rolls are smaller-OD to fit compact printer bays.

Printers That Are NOT Compatible

These models look like they should work but use proprietary cartridges, firmware-locked media, or incompatible print technology. Do not use with Ecotherm labels.

DYMO LabelWriter 5XL manufacturer ↗

Firmware-locked to DYMO labels via Auto Label Recognition (ALR). Rejects any non-DYMO label at the firmware level. Use the DYMO LabelWriter 4XL instead.

DYMO LabelWriter 550 / 550 Turbo manufacturer ↗

Firmware-locked to DYMO labels (same ALR as 5XL). Use the DYMO LabelWriter 4XL instead.

DYMO LabelWriter 450 / 450 Turbo / Twin Turbo manufacturer ↗

Proprietary cartridge format — labels load in factory-sealed cartridges, not open rolls.

Brother QL-1100 / QL-1110NWB manufacturer ↗

Uses proprietary Brother DK roll cartridges. Not an open-roll printer. For 4×6 shipping labels consider a Zebra ZD421d or Rollo X1040.

Brother QL-820NWB / QL-810W / QL-800 / QL-700 / QL-600 manufacturer ↗

Uses proprietary Brother DK roll cartridges. Same incompatibility as QL-1100 series.

Brother VC-500W / VC-100 manufacturer ↗

Uses ZINK / P-touch tape — a completely different print process. Not compatible with any direct thermal label.

Zebra ZSB-DP12 / ZSB-DP14 manufacturer ↗

Cartridge-based consumer printer using proprietary Zebra ZSB cartridges, not open rolls. Use ZD-series (desktop) or ZQ-series (mobile) for open-roll Zebra printing.

How to Match the Right Roll to Your Printer

Two specs determine which Ecotherm roll works in your printer:

  • Inner core diameter: 1" for desktop printers, 0.75" for mobile printers.
  • Outer diameter (OD): How large a roll your printer bay accepts. Most desktop printers handle up to 5" OD. The DYMO 4XL is limited to 3.5" OD. Mobile printers typically handle 2.2"–2.6" OD.

Roll OD Reference

  • Family 1 (desktop, standard) — 4" OD, 1" core — fits all desktop printers in the list above
  • Family 2 (desktop, high-capacity) — 5" OD, 1" core — fits all desktop printers except DYMO 4XL
  • Family 3 (mobile) — 2.5" OD, 0.75" core, black mark liner — fits all mobile printers in the list above

Frequently Asked Questions

What Zebra desktop printers work with Ecotherm labels?

All Zebra ZD-series printers in direct thermal mode are compatible: ZD220d, ZD230d, ZD411d, ZD420d, ZD421d, ZD611d, ZD620d, ZD621d, and legacy GK420d, GX420d, LP2844, and ZP450. They all use a 1-inch core and standard 4–5" OD rolls.

Will Ecotherm labels work with my Rollo X1040?

Yes. The Rollo X1040 (Wireless), X1038 (USB), and X1036 (legacy USB) all accept 1-inch core rolls in direct thermal mode. All Ecotherm desktop label SKUs are compatible.

Why doesn't the DYMO 5XL work with Ecotherm labels?

The DYMO 5XL includes Auto Label Recognition (ALR) firmware that verifies label authenticity via an embedded chip. Labels from any other manufacturer are rejected at the firmware level. Only the DYMO LabelWriter 4XL (which lacks ALR) is compatible.

Are Ecotherm labels compatible with Brother QL printers?

No. Brother QL printers use proprietary DK roll cartridges that are factory-sealed. They are not open-roll printers. For 4×6 shipping labels consider a Zebra ZD421d or Rollo X1040 instead.

What is the difference between 1-inch core and 0.75-inch core labels?

Ecotherm Family 1 and Family 2 labels (1" core) are for stationary desktop printers. Family 3 labels (0.75" core, black mark sensing) are for mobile/portable printers such as the Zebra ZQ series, Brother RuggedJet, and Honeywell RP series.

What does "verify per roll" mean for Brother RJ-2150 and RJ-3150?

Brother's official spec sheet lists the native inner core for these models at 10.2 mm rather than the 19 mm (0.75") on Ecotherm Family 3 rolls. In practice many users run them successfully, but we recommend a sample roll first before a large order. Contact us for a sample.

Can I use Ecotherm labels in a Zebra ZSB printer?

No. The Zebra ZSB-DP12 and ZSB-DP14 are cartridge-based and require proprietary Zebra ZSB cartridges. For open-roll Zebra printing, use any ZD-series model.

What roll outer diameter should I order for my desktop printer?

Most desktop printers accept rolls up to 5" OD. The DYMO LabelWriter 4XL accepts a maximum of 3.5" OD — use Family 1 SKUs (4" OD) with that printer. For all other desktop printers, both Family 1 (4" OD) and Family 2 (5" OD) work.

Do Ecotherm labels work with MUNBYN printers?

Yes. The MUNBYN ITPP941, ITPP130, RW402B, RW403B, and P44S all use a 1-inch core and direct thermal mode. All Ecotherm desktop label SKUs up to 4 inches wide are compatible.

Which mobile printers are compatible?

Ecotherm Family 3 mobile labels are verified with: Zebra ZQ500 series, Zebra ZQ600/Plus series, Zebra QLn legacy series, Brother RuggedJet RJ-4250WB and RJ-4230B series, and Honeywell RP2/RP4 series.

Can I use my Zebra ZQ630 with Ecotherm labels?

Yes. The Zebra ZQ630 and ZQ630 Plus support black mark sensing, 0.75-inch core rolls, and have a 4.10-inch max print width. Ecotherm Family 3 mobile labels are fully compatible.

Does Ecotherm label adhesive work in cold or outdoor conditions?

Our standard labels use permanent acrylic adhesive for room-temperature applications. For cold-chain or prolonged outdoor UV exposure, contact us — specialty variants are available.

Do Ecotherm labels have BPA-free certification?

SGS BPA/BPS-free certification testing is currently in progress. We cannot confirm certification status until it is officially issued. Contact us for current formulation documentation.

My printer isn't on the list. Can I still use Ecotherm labels?

Probably yes. If your printer accepts a 1-inch core roll (desktop) or 0.75-inch core roll (mobile), prints in direct thermal mode, and supports gap sensing (desktop) or black mark sensing (mobile), it should work. Use the form below and we'll verify it for you.
