Ecotherm white direct thermal labels are BPA-free and BPS-free, tested by SGS. In June 2026 SGS, an independent testing lab, tested a representative sample of our white direct thermal facestock for BPA and BPS. Neither was detected.

What the SGS Test Covers

  • Tested by: SGS, an independent testing, inspection and certification company
  • Report date: June 5, 2026
  • Substances tested: BPA (CAS 80-05-7) and BPS (CAS 80-09-1)
  • Result: BPA not detected; BPS not detected
  • Sample: one representative sample of Ecotherm white direct thermal facestock
  • Applies to: Ecotherm white direct thermal labels only. Yellow and other colored labels were not part of this test, so we don't make the BPA-free and BPS-free claim for them.

The test covers BPA and BPS only. It does not test for any other substance, and we don't claim anything beyond these two results.

Why BPA and BPS Matter in Thermal Paper

Direct thermal labels print with heat rather than ink. The facestock carries a heat-sensitive coating that turns black where the printhead heats it. Many thermal papers use BPA or BPS in that coating as the developer. Buyers who handle labels all day, or whose customers ask about BPA, often look for thermal labels that are tested BPA-free and BPS-free.
